Project Summary
Completion of the new Bangkok headquarters for the Siam Cement Group (SCG) marked the organization's 100th anniversary. The core concept under which we approached its task was the symbolic passing-on to coming generations of the accumulated value of one of Thailand’s leading industrial conglomerates. The value of this inheritance can be seen in the green and sustainable landscape design. All existing trees have been preserved and the site’s evolution over time preserved by ‘layers of history’, emphasized by different ground levels. Inspired by the language of the architecture, the curvature line serves as a design tool in negotiating between the different ground levels of existing buildings and trees. The proliferation of lines creates a smooth continuity of programs from building to building, while differing arrangements of various elements shows adaptation for varying uses. The divergence of curved pavements signifies a synergy between nature and man-made structures; a co-existence between valuable development and the vitality of a natural heritage. This project has acquired Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum rating for core and shell, the highest level of international recognition for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of green buildings.
